Meet Amanda Fogel, MHC-LP
New York Therapist for Relationships, OCD, and Career Stress
If you’re dealing with intrusive thoughts, relationship stress, constant overthinking, or work stress that won’t let up — therapy can help you slow down and make sense of it.
I’m Amanda, a Mental Health Counselor with a Limited Permit based in New York City. I work with young adults and professionals navigating anxiety, OCD, relationship stress, and career transitions with more clarity and confidence.
My style is warm, collaborative, and supportive — and gently direct when it’s helpful.
In our work together, we’ll explore how your past experiences shaped your patterns, while also building practical tools to manage anxiety, intrusive thoughts, and relationship stress in the present.
I integrate:
Narrative therapy
You’ll understand the “why” behind your struggles — and also learn how to respond differently when they show up.
Therapy isn’t about eliminating uncertainty or silencing every anxious thought. It’s about helping you build a stronger relationship with yourself so anxiety, OCD, or stress no longer runs the show.
Working with a Limited Permit Therapist
As a Limited Permit therapist in New York, I practice under the supervision of Julie Newman, LMHC-D.
This means your care is supported through ongoing weekly clinical supervision as I complete the required hours for full licensure.
You’ll work directly with me in all sessions. Julie is involved behind the scenes through structured supervision to ensure thoughtful, ethical, high-quality care.
Many clients appreciate this team-based model. It offers the accessibility and focus of working directly with me, along with the added support of an experienced licensed supervisor.
Amanda’s Specialities
I work with clients who are navigating:
Relationship Stress (romantic and family)
Mother-daughter dynamics
OCD (Intrusive thoughts and compulsions)
My Focus on OCD & ERP
I have specialized training in Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), the gold standard treatment for OCD.
If intrusive thoughts feel loud, sticky, or overwhelming, you’re not broken — your brain is trying to protect you in an unhelpful way
In our work together, we’ll focus on helping you:
Reduce the power of intrusive thoughts
Tolerate uncertainty without engaging in compulsions
Break reassurance seeking cycles
Feel less controlled by your mind
ERP is structured and evidence-based, but it doesn’t have to feel cold or rigid. We’ll move at a pace that feels challenging yet manageable.
If OCD or anxiety is interfering with your relationships, work, or daily life, I bring focused tools and steady support to that process.
My Path to Becoming a Therapist
I’ve always been drawn to people’s inner worlds — the small details, the meaning beneath the surface, the conversations that go deeper than “I’m fine.”
Navigating my own mental health challenges showed me firsthand how transformative therapy can be. It helped me name emotions I couldn’t previously access and realize I wasn’t “too much.”
Having moved through dating, career shifts, and the uncertainty of your 20s and early 30s myself, I bring lived relatability into the room — without centering myself in your process.
I know what it feels like to replay conversations. To question whether you said too much. To wonder how to express your needs without losing someone.
And I know how powerful it is to sit with someone who truly understands that experience.
What it’s like to work with me:
Your free 15 minute phone consultation will be directly with me.
If you move forward, all therapy sessions will also be with me.
Our work will balance insight and structure. We’ll look at patterns, but we’ll also take action.
You won’t just talk about anxiety — you’ll learn how to respond to it differently.
We might be a great fit if you:
Want focused support for OCD using ERP
Are looking for structured, practical tools for anxiety
Want support navigating relationship conflict or communication patterns (individually or as a couple)
Are seeking couples therapy that balances emotional depth with concrete skills
Prefer working with someone close to your current life stage
Are looking for slightly more flexible availability
Want thoughtful, closely supervised care
Are seeking a slightly lower investment than Julie’s sessions
I bring fresh training, deep empathy, and strong clinical structure to my work — along with genuine excitement to help you create meaningful change.
Outside of Session
When I’m not in session, you’ll probably find me trying a new restaurant or natural wine bar, taking a workout class, or cooking something new in my kitchen.
I recharge through shopping, watching a new show, spending time with friends, or enjoying a quiet evening to reset.

In New York, a Limited Permit allows a therapist who has completed their Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling to practice therapy while completing the required supervised 3,000 clinical hours for full licensure.
I conduct therapy sessions independently and receive ongoing weekly supervision from Julie. This means my clinical work is regularly reviewed and supported to ensure thoughtful, ethical, and high quality care.
Clients work directly and consistently with me, while also benefiting from structured professional oversight behind the scenes. -
I meet with Julie for one hour each week for clinical supervision. During this time, we review treatment, discuss clinical questions, and ensure my work aligns with best practices and ethical standards.
Supervision also supports my ongoing professional development and helps maintain sustainable, thoughtful care for my clients. -
$225 for 45 minute session
$250 for 45 minute couples therapy session
We are an out of network practice and do not accept insurance, but we can help you get reimbursed if your plan offers out of network benefits for therapy.
Many clients are reimbursed 60 - 90% of the session fee once their out of network deductible is met. We can either submit claims on your behalf or provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance.
