Couples Therapy
With Geraldine Salazar, MHC-LP
I look at what's really happening underneath the conflict to understand the cycle you’re stuck in and learn how to respond differently.
Are you having the same fight over and over?
Do you feel more like roommates than partners?
Maybe you've stopped talking about the things that matter because every difficult conversation turns into conflict. For some clients, intimacy has faded. For others, there’s been a breach of trust, a secret, or a decision you can't seem to make together.
I’m not interested in deciding who is right. Both of you are part of the work.
Couples therapy is about helping you understand each other, repair what's damaged, and bring you closer together.
Couples Come To Me When They
Live like roommates
Keep having the same fight
Avoid hard conversations
Are disconnected
Lose intimacy
Struggle with trust
Face big decisions
You don't have to agree on everything to have a stronger relationship. But you do need to understand what keeps happening between you.
Couples Therapy With Me
Approaches We May Use
We’ll look beneath the argument to understand what’s blocking real communication. Often, the conflict on the surface isn’t the whole story. There is usually unmet needs, fear, hurt, or an attachment pattern driving the interaction.
I’ll help you see the cycle you're caught in, understand the other person, and learn how to react differently.
We’ll work with both of you present.
-
Helps us understand the needs and fears underneath relationship conflict. This helps you feel more understood and connected instead of stuck in the same cycle.
-
Focuses on practical relationship skills, communication, conflict, friendship, and repair. This helps you handle difficult conversations without letting them escalate.
-
Helps uncover the deeper patterns and past experiences that influence how you each respond to one another. This creates more understanding and less blame.
You Love Each Other, But Communicating Is Hard
The goal isn't to never fight again. It’s to learn how to fight differently and repair when things go wrong.
What Changes After Couples Therapy With Me
You learn to stop sweeping difficult things under the rug while also stopping the cycle where every disagreement becomes a bigger fight.
Couples report they:
Reconnect emotionally
Catch escalation sooner
Ask for what they need
Understand unmet needs
Repair after conflict
Build trust
Make decisions together
“When you understand what’s happening underneath the conflict, you hear each other, repair, and move forward together.”
About Geraldine Salazar, MHC-LP
Hi, I’m Geraldine Salazar, MHC-LP.
My couples work is grounded in attachment and understanding what's happening below the surface to identify the pattern between you and figure out how to move forward together.
Sessions are collaborative and focused on the relationship itself. We’ll talk openly about conflict, communication, trust, intimacy, and your needs that may be going unspoken. I’m not here to decide who is right. I’m here to help the two of you understand each other and reconnect.
I work with couples as the client, which means both partners are present and involved in the work.
If you’re ready to understand what’s happening between you and start changing the pattern, schedule a free consultation.
Availability: I provide in-person therapy in New York City, and virtual therapy via telehealth for clients across New York State.

3 Steps To Get Started
-
Schedule a free 15-minute consultation and tell me what's happening between you.
-
We’ll talk about what you both want to change, how couples therapy works, and whether it’s a good fit.
-
If we decide to work together, in our first full session, we’ll dive into what’s been feeling stuck or painful. I’ll help you both slow things down, name what’s not working, and begin mapping a path forward.
